Two-thirds of low income women couldn't afford to buy menstrual products at some point in the last year, and more than 20% of them struggle with affording supplies every single month. And 23% of female students in Oregon have had to miss class due to not having access to proper supplies. This is a basic human need that has become a luxury purchase for too many. Lack of reliable access to supplies keeps millions of women & girls in the U.S. from fully participating in work and school.

Menstrual products are not covered by grocery assistance programs such as SNAP benefits or WIC. As more leaders are becoming aware of period poverty in the U.S. that may change, but until then it is up to regular people in communities like ours to address this problem on a local level as best we can.

Period poverty refers to the inability to afford proper period products such as pads or tampons to manage menstrual bleeding. In lieu of these expensive items many women & girls are forced to use items like rags, paper towels, toilet paper, and socks, which can lead to discomfort and infection.
The purpose of the Talent Period Dignity Project is to eliminate period poverty in Talent by making menstrual supplies accessible to anyone who needs them. We strongly believe that everyone deserves the right to manage their period with dignity.
